Are you suffering from foot-related pain? Lower back pain, sciatica, neck pain, or other pain in your ankles, hips, or knees? These can be caused by a foot deformity or poor gait.
Wearing orthopedic insoles can provide relief and prevent complications from your medical conditions. However, prices vary and orthopedic insoles are subject to low reimbursement by health insurance.
The cost of manufacturing a pair of orthopedic insoles, also known as foot orthotics, varies widely depending on the materials and techniques used.
For custom-made insoles created by a podiatrist or orthopedist after a clinical examination, prices range from an average of €170 to over €400, depending on your region or the professional. Generally, the price of insoles includes the podiatric examination.
To receive reimbursement for your orthopedic insoles from health insurance, a medical prescription is mandatory. The prescription can be issued by a general practitioner, your treating physician, or an orthopedist. The prescription is valid for one year. Therefore, Social Security covers one pair of orthopedic insoles per year for an adult, and two pairs per year for a child.
Please note that the reimbursement base varies depending on the shoe size of the insoles:
Health insurance reimburses up to 60% of these Social Security contract rates. For a size 38, for example, the reimbursement for a pair of orthopedic insoles is therefore limited to 28.86 x 60% = €17.31.
Good to know: since 2019, podiatrists have been authorized to renew orthopedic insoles initially prescribed by the treating physician.
Generally speaking, reimbursement for fees charged by a podiatrist in excess of the base rate amounts to 60% of the base rate of €27, minus a €0.50 copayment. The portion covered by Health Insurance thus amounts to €15.70 per visit. For example, based on the average price of a pair of insoles at €170, this will cost you approximately €140 after reimbursement in most cases. However, patients with type 2 or type 3 diabetes are eligible for four to six podiatry sessions per year, which are covered 100% by the National Health Insurance.
At New Equilibre, your insoles are manufactured by certified orthotists. However, as they are not the result of a clinical examination, they are not eligible for reimbursement by social security.
This is why, when creating New Equilibre, we chose to offer you high-end orthopedic insoles at affordable prices. The starting price for our insoles is €75 for the CITY model, and ranges up to €110 for the Sport Elite Pro models.
